Help...i need to dye my hair, but i have really difficult asian hair?

So, I usually get my hair colored by my stylist, but it's really expensive. I have really long, thick hair and i'm full asian. I had it dyed a medium brown, with one chunky blonde highlight in the front. I decided to do away with the blonde and just want a nice, easy, all over medium/golden brown. I bought a box of haircolor, did the whole roots first for 20 minutes, then put it all over...and it didn't do anything to my roots, and darkened my other hair about two shades (even though the display/sample hair infront of the box i got was the same as my hair).

What should I do? Do I dye it again, and get a color that is a couple of shades lighter (like light brown/dark blonde?) Or is my thick hair just not going to work with at home dyes and such? Any advice would be helpful, thanks in advanced.

You should keep your natural hair. Asian's I think ahve the most beutiful hair.

If you want it you're going to have to bleach it, and it may kill your hair. I think you should leave it natural, or just add a LITTLE bit of color to give it a little "pizazz". [:

good luck!

leave it natural. Asian gilrs look silly when they start coloring their hair. Unless you become grey.

could be because your hair is really thick. I would wait a few days as hair dye tends to fade a little. if it doesn't work in a week, dye it again. If you are looking to go lighter, try Feria hi lift browns. This works without brassiness.

I have thick, jet black, and long Asian hair too. What I would do is have my hair stripped and colored to the correct tone at a salon but wait at least 1 week for the hair to recover from the chemicals.

you really have no choice but to dye it black. because the highlights discolored your hair. it may be the dye but most likely its cause the dye is used on different based hair. therefore different color results. or you can bleach your hair and dye it brown.

Hi there. I'm no expert but I have a hard enough time dying my hair to a light blonde using at home hair dye kits, and I'm a dirty blonde. The problem is they don't really do that well with dark hair colors unless you're going darker (at least in my opinion). Most of the time my hair comes out looking yellow and not blonde at all, which sucks!

Anyhow.....

You need to bleach your hair first before you can add color to it because your hair is so dark, also very thick. The problem is, you can really end up with a terrible color if you don't know what you are doing.

Hair goes through stages during bleaching, if you do it at home you're likely to have to bleach your hair many times as it goes from Black to red to orange to yellow to white to take the hair dye color you want.

It's really not worth all the mess and hassle if you have super long hair, and if you have no experience doing this. Besides, why not just get it done in a salon and have it over with in one day?

Want my best advice? To save money... go to a Beauty College/School in your county, and ask them to do it. It's fully supervised by a professional hairstylist ( the teacher ) and you will pay a very low price ( mostly just the cost of the supplies, dyes, colors etc ).

It's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck in whichever answer you chose and whichever choice you make.

P.S. If you do decide to do bleaching and such you are going to have to wait, because you just added the at home hair dye kit stuff to your hair. You cannot mix the two.. you must wait til those chemicals come out.. or go to a salon and have your hair stripped of all of that stuff first.

First of all, you are using the wrong words. Dye means to add color. What you want is a bleach, and a toner . this is almost impossible to do at home by yourself, as you need to constantly check the progress. If you have beautiful Asian hair, why do you want to damage it? Any time you add any chemicals to change the structure of the hair shaft, it causes damage and if done too many times, will cause breakage..

Keep your hair clean and shiny and be the envy of the straggly over processed women who see you. Best wishes, retired hairdresser.
