Razor or no razor? I have Asian hair and I want a very subtle cut with few layers.?

I have Asian hair that is below shoulder length. I want volume in my hair, but I hate it when stylists put too much layers in my hair. When they do that, my hair really looks flat to the point where I don't look like I have too much hair. Also, it makes my hair look damaged with tons of split ends. I actually love layers as long as they don't go overboard. I'm looking for a subtle volumizing look, nothing dramatic. I'm confused about how razors are used to cut hair. Some say don't use a razor while others say that you need a razor to achieve layers. Please let me know if I should avoid razors if I'm looking for a subtle hair cut with minimal layering.

razors give a choppy layered look.

Razors are used to thin hair as well.

To get volume, you normally have to have layers....sorry....

Most asian hair is flat. You just need to be happy with what you have. I had to pay a lot of money for a professional straightener so I can have crazy straight hair like you naturally do.

dont get razors.get long layers it will make your hair look volumized.

Scissors have clean cuts and razors create the whole dirty looks (see britney spears hair in slave4u). If you want volum go to the salon and tell them. "Not to layerd but enough to creat a volume hair illusion"

Lily, forget the razor and layers Asian hair is to straight to

really layer for volume.you will lose the beautiful shine that Asian hair has. you can taper the ends to give you slight layers, shoulder length hair looks best smooth and straight

Razors make you have split ends!

No razor! I never have my stylist use a razor on my hair. My hair is shiny and black and smooth. My stylist says using a razor will ruin the cut edges of my hair and weaken it... making it brittle and dry. YUCK! My stylist uses her scissors to just cut into the edges..... light layering, very nice. Many comment about my hair.

I was told do not use razors on straight hair...

I'm asian too btw and one time i went to this hair salon that was kind of more for younger people and they did all these crazy hair styles. I'm young too but i didnt want like a million different layers at a million different angles.

Anyways the guy used a razor on my hair and a week later my hair just didnt feel healthy which was why i needed it cut in the first place to get rid of split ends.

So i went back to my usual barber and told her about how he used a razor and that it was the first time i've had that used on me. And she said it was bad because i have straight hair and the razor just goes straight down the hair and doesnt even cut some times it just adds more damage and split ends. She said a razor should be used on curly hair because the hair is curled and at an angle and when you go straight down with a razor it will cut the hair of instead of just slicing it in half...

Idk if it makes sense the way i put it but hopefully it helps
